Hagans lead Rebs
to golf team win
Freshman Klayton Hagan fired a 37 to take medalist honors and led Obion Central to a victory over Union City and host Ripley in a three-way golf match Tuesday afternoon at Rolling Hills Country Club.
The Rebels shot 164 as a team, easily outdistancing UC (206) and Ripley (208).
Hagan’s older brother, junior Korben, was just one shot off the leading pace with a 38, while Ryan Middlebrook came in with a 44 and Cameron Green shot 45.
For Union City, Clay Treece had the Tornadoes’ best score with a 44. Luke Searcy shot 51, Devin King 52, and both Jackson Bruff and Kizer Harris came in with 59s.
Obion Central will play again Thursday, at Covington, while UC’s next scheduled match is Monday at The Farms against Dyersburg.
OC girls, UC runner
best at Dresden meet
Obion Central had two first-place finishes. Union City’s one-man team had another.
The Lady Rebels topped a field of eight teams, while UC’s Daniel Williamson was tops out of 107 runners in the Dresden Invitational cross country meet Tuesday.
OC’s Rachel Jones led the field of 70 in the girls’ meet, clocking a time of 22 minutes, 28 seconds.
Also medaling for Central were Tia Parks in second place, Nicole Whitson in third, Peyton Daniel in ninth, Brenna Wilkins in 10th, Stella Preuett in 12th, Nicole Storey in 13th and Allison Ward in 15th.
Williamson shaved 50 seconds off his time in winning the boys’ meet in a time of 16:51.
The Rebel boys were fourth out of nine teams.
Coleman Dunn was 14th overall, while Alex Terrell was 15th.
SF soccer squad
blanks Haywood
Having been coached by Mixon Moore since South Fulton’s soccer progam began, his former players showed him how much they’ve learned on Tuesday.
Now the head coach at Haywood, Moore saw his new squad shut out by his old team as the Red Devilettes remained unbeaten and unscored-upon two matches into the 2012 season with a 2-0 victory over Haywood.
Desiray Sturgeon scored both SF goals, each unassisted, while Taleah Cross had an outstanding game in goal with 19 keeper saves.
First-year SF head coach Emily Belote praised the play of her entire team, particularly noting the hustle of Sara Reams, in the win.
McKenzie no match
for Lady Rebels
Obion Central opened its girls’ soccer season in style.
The Lady Rebels scored seven first-half goals, then cruised to an 8-2 victory over host McKenzie Tuesday afternoon.
Brooke Jennings found the net four times for OC, while Whitney Lee booted in a pair of goals. Both Katie Speed and Erin Chappell also scored for Central.
Danielle Gansereit had two assists, while Kaycee Mathenia, Jennings and Lee also aided the county locals on goal-scoring plays.
Taylor Baker had a pair of saves in goals for the victors.
Obion Central plays host to Haywood next Tuesday.
