Hits not needed in Martin outburst

Posted: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 12:00 pm

County middle school softball teams all saw action on the diamonds Tuesday afternoon, with a pair going up against each other.
Martin did not need to swing the bats very often against Lake County as the Lady Falcons gave the Lady Panthers plenty of free passes around the base paths in an 18-0 win.
In Greenfield, it was Dresden beating its cross-county rivals in game that saw both teams combine to score 22 runs. The Lady Lions won 14-8.
Martin 18, Lake Co. 0
It was a no-contest for Martin Middle School in softball action Monday as the Lady Panthers scored all 18 runs in the first two innings of action.
Head coach Judy Suiter’s squad did not get many hits, but walks and wild pitches by an inexperienced Lady Falcons team was more than enough for Martin.
Suiter decided to stop the madness after Lake County batted in the top of third.
Even after the Lady Panthers tried to slow down the onslaught by not stealing any more bases, the Lady Falcons kept being charitable.
Pitcher Allie Cantrell allowed a lone baserunner in the top of third by issuing her only walk.
Cantrell struck out five batters in the shortened contest.
The junior varsity squad also had a fairly easy time against Lake County. The jayvee squad won 8-0 in a three-inning game. Pitcher Hannah Hazelwood faced the minimum nine batters and struck out eight.
Martin lost 5-0 Thursday at South Fulton.
Dresden 14, G’field 8
A lot of runs for Greenfield Middle School, but the Lady Yellowjackets came up short against Dresden in Tuesday’s varsity game.
Molly Mai Borneman went the distance for Greenfield with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Seventh-grader Dalis Gill had a pair of hits, including a double and two RBIs for the Lady ’Jackets. Makayla Little, also a seventh-grader, had two hits, scored twice and drove in one run.
Greenfield seventh-grader Sara Williams reached base twice on two hits, scored two runs and stole one base.
Her teammate, Molly Mai Borneman, drove in one run on a pair of hits.
