Woodland Mills is getting a facelift.
The mayor and board of aldermen voted Monday night to cash in two CDs to help pay for projects in the city.
Alderman Tom Menees brought two bids before the board for repainting the letters on City Hall. The low bid was $290.
It was also noted that Allen Searcy Builder Contractor is finishing work on the Civic Center and tiles are currently being installed. A new sign was also purchased for the building and railroad ties have been put in place to help stop motorists from hitting the building.
The city is also in the process of repaving Mt. Herman, Cross, Hudson, Olive and Gum streets.
In other business, after the meeting was opened with Mayor Wade Carrington leading the Pledge of Allegiance and with Menees saying the prayer, the board:
• Approved revised financial statements for June and approved July financial statements, including total assets of $156,456.27 in the General Fund, $7,348.07 in the Refuse Collection Fund, $7,302.85 in the Street Aid Fund and $569,947.83 in the Sewer Fund.
• Learned no property taxes were received in July. Property taxes still owed include $167 for 2009, $419 for 2010 and $1,058 for 2011.
• Heard the mayor is still playing “phone tag” with the property law survey response.
• Renewed the city’s contract with Barker Brothers, noting a 3 percent increase.
• Agreed to allow maintenance employee Perry Carr to make the determination on whether the Civic Center has been properly cleaned for renters to have their cleaning deposit refunded. If it is not, the renter will have the option of cleaning the building again or Carr will be given the deposit to clean the building.
• Voted to pay Tennessee Municipal League and Obion County Chamber of Commerce fees and to purchase a $100 patron membership with Community Concert Association of Union City/Obion County. The board discussed the possibility of drawing residents’ names for the two tickets to the concerts.
• Heard the September meeting will be held on its regular date of Sept. 10, but that the October meeting needs to be postponed to Oct. 9. The meetings start at 6 p.m.
• Was invited to attend a men’s prayer group at the Obion County Courthouse Friday morning at 6:30 to pray for the community, county, state and federal leaders.
