Donley Canary, the head softball coach at The University of Tennessee at Martin has announced that former Morehead State standout Ashley Archer has joined the Skyhawk program as a graduate assistant. “We are very pleased to have Ashley join our program,” UT Martin head coach Donley Canary said. “Ashley brings a wealth of experience to our program.” Archer played in 37 games her senior year at Morehead State and hit a pair of home runs and registered three doubles. She proved to be a defensive mainstay in the outfield. She committed one error. In 2009, Archer played in 12 games before suffering a season-ending injury in a game against UT Martin at Bettye Giles Field. Before Morehead State, Archer prepped at West Lafayette High School, where she led the team to the Indiana state championship. She helped her team win four consecutive sectional championships. Archer was named an Honorable-Mention All-Area in 2005 when she hit .295 with 23 runs scored, three doubles and two triples. Canary said Archer will work with the infielders as well as help the team with hitting. Published in The WCP 8.21.12
