UTM golf outing
at Persimmon Hills

The UT Martin golf team has announced its annual fund-raising golf tournament will take place at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon.
The registration deadline is Sunday, and participants may register at the Persimmon Hills pro shop or by calling 881-7665.
The tournament committee will form the teams by handicap and pair them with current and previous members of the UT Martin golf team.
After teams have been organized, no changes or substitutions will be allowed. The field will be limited to the first 108 participants and seniors age 65 and older will be allowed to use the gold tees.
Tournament entry fee is $70 and includes one round of golf at Persimmon Hills Golf Course, cart fees and dinner with head coach Jerry Carpenter and members of the Skyhawk golf team.
The use of personal golf carts by participants will be allowed and is encouraged as well.
Dinner and an after-meal function will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in the Persimmon Hills Golf Course pro-shop dining area.
Guests are welcome to attend the dinner only at a cost of $10 per person.
All proceeds from the annual fund-raising tournament will benefit the UT Martin golf program and help defer travel and equipment expenses throughout the season.

Ex-Westview player
coaching SF soccer

South Fulton didn’t have to look far for a new girls’ soccer coach.
Crossing the county line, the Red Devilette program has tapped former Westview softball and soccer standout Emily Belote to take over.
The season begins Monday with a home match against Gibson County, action slated to begin at 6 p.m.
In addition to softball and soccer, Belote was a member of the Lady Chargers’ basketball team through her junior season.
She earned a softball scholarship to UT Martin but suffered an ACL tear in one of her first workouts with the Skyhawks and chose to give up athletics to concentrate on school.
Belote was a four-time all-district and all-region soccer player as well as a three-time all-district, all-region and all-academic softball player at Westview.
A certified fitness instructor, Belote has a degree in Health and Human Performance from UTM and is working on her masters in Occupational Therapy.
She is coaching at SF on a paraprofessional basis, replacing Mixon Moore.
Belote is the daughter of David Belote, assistant vice chancellor of student affiars at UT Martin, and Dawne Belote,a speech language pathologist.
The school system is still in the process of searching for a new boys’ soccer coach.
Belote’s first game as the Red Devilette skipper was a success as South Fulton handled South Gibson, 8-0.
The Lady Devils scored six goals in the first half.
