If Week 0 is any indication, Joe Gaddis will make a huge difference in the program at Trenton Peabody.
The new Tide head coach and his troops took heralded Milan to the limit before dropping a heartbreaking 36-35 decision in overtime Friday night before a capacity crowd at Walter Kilzer Stadium.
Arkel Coleman’s two-point coversion run after the Bulldogs drew to within 35-34 on a Caleb Powell touchdown pass proved to be the difference in the contest.
Coleman, Milan’s all-state linebacker, rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns — the last a 64-yard scamper midway through the final stanza, and Powell followed with a conversion run to draw the Bulldogs even.
Peabody had rallied from a 13-0 deficit and led 28-20 heading into the fourth quarter as Ty Fields ran for two scores and Najawon Miller threw a pair of TD passes.

Dresden 14, WV 12
Devan Raymer took control of an injury-depleted backfield and led the Lions to a season-opening win over their Weakley County rivals for the second consecutive year.
Mainly taking direct snaps from the “Wildcat” formation, Raymer rushed for 150 yards on 28 carries and scored both Lion touchdowns. He also gave two points to Westview, running through the end zone as time expired as Dresden chose to give up the meaningless safety on a fourth-down play rather than punt to Westview.
A Cal Bradshaw 25-yard field goal at 5:16 of the first quarter, and a 14-yard TD pass from Ryne Vinson to Ty Brown at 1:22 of the second period sandwiched Raymer’s one-yard scoring burst to give Westview a 10-7 halftime lead.
But, a pass from other Charger quarterback Matt Castleman to Javier Gordon into the end zone on 4th-and-4 from the Lions’ 11-yard-line drew an offensive pass interference to suddenly end what could have been a game-clinching drive for Westview.
Dresden took advantage, embarking on a 16-play, 74-yard scoring drive that ended with a two-yard run by Raymer on the first play of the fourth quarter.
The Lions then stopped Westview twice on fourth down deep in their own territory, aided by another offensive pass interference in the final minutes.
Quan Williams carried 18 times for 99 yards to pace Westview.
Crockett 35, H’boldt 27
Johnny Jones ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Terry Allen Beaird added 100 yards and a TD on the ground as the Cavs opened Kevin Ward’s second season at the Crockett County helm in impressive fashion.
CC, which finished strong last year in what was otherwise a disappointing 3-7 campaign, scored three times to break open a tight 17-14 game in the second quarter.
The Cavaliers outgained H’boldt 415-227 and allowed the Vikings just two offensive touchdowns.
So. Gib. 35, W. Carroll 21
Brothers Carlos and Quincy Walden accounted for all five Hornet TDs and SG rallied for three unanswered scores in the fourth quarter after trailing 21-14.
Quincy ran for 159 yards and touchdown runs of seven, 58 and 12 yards, while Carlos hit paydirt on runs of one and 58 yards.
Letrell Huff’s 30-yard TD midway through the final period had given West Carroll a 21-14 lead.
Henry Co. 36, Liberty 26
Down 26-14 in the third quarter, the reigning Class 5A state champion Patriots scored the game’s final 22 points to rally past Liberty.
Quarterback Storme Hilliard scored two of HC’s three touchdowns in that comeback.
Jamal Curtis rushed for 122 yards and a score for the victors.
