The McCollum family from Obion County was on hand Monday evening when former University of Tennessee Extension Service agent Claire McCollum was named to the Obion County Fair Hall of Fame. Mrs. McCollum, the widow of Sam McCollum, served as a home demonstration extension agent from 1961-93 and was also involved with junior livestock at the fair when her children and grandchildren showed animals. She was unable to attend her induction during the fair’s opening ceremony due to health reasons. Former extension agent Bob Montgomery, who worked with her for many years, made the introduction and noted the entire McCollum family’s involvement with the fair over the years. Fair board president Brenda Baker (left) made the presentation to Mrs. McCollum’s family members, (from left, continuing with second from left) granddaughter Jaime (McCollum) White, daughter-in-law Patty McCollum, granddaughter Rachel McCollum, holding Mrs. White’s daughter Benson White, all of Woodland Mills; brother and sister-in-law Dr. Paul and Marilou Thompson of Memphis; son Sammy McCollum of Woodland Mills; and daughter and son-in-law Beverly (McCollum) and Ken Hardin of Memphis. |
