Man on tractor faces drunk driving charge
A Hickman, Ky., man was arrested Friday for driving under the influence — on a tractor.
Timothy Haney was taken into custody on charges that included disregarding stop signs and first-offense operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, etc. (aggravated circumstances), according to a Fulton County (Ky.) Sheriff’s Department press release.
Due to the high amount of alcohol shown on his breath analysis, he was charged with aggravated circumstances. The sheriff’s department reported he was three times over the legal amount allowed by law.
The arrest came Friday when a sheriff’s deputy on patrol encountered a man on a tractor traveling south on Seventh Street in Hickman. Authorities reported he was “driving in a manner that approaching vehicles had to swerve to avoid coming in contact with the tractor.”
When the deputy was able to get behind the suspect, he had turned onto Cedar Street traveling west, the sheriff’s department reported. The deputy said while he was following him, he observed the driver continued to drive from side to side, running off the roadway, and ran three stops signs before he stopped.
The sheriff’s department noted in its news release that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is very dangerous and can cause injury or death. Anyone who observes someone they think may be driving under the influence should contact their nearest local law enforcement agency or 911.
A nationwide campaign “Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over” will begin Friday and end Sept. 3. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement agencies will be participating in the campaign to get impaired drivers off roadways.
