Theft suspects sought

Posted: Wednesday, August 8, 2012 9:05 pm

Union City police are searching for two suspects in the theft of two laptop computers on separate occasions at the local Walmart Supercenter.
The thefts apparently occurred July 30 and were reported to police July 31.
The first incident occurred when a white man and a black man entered Walmart on West Reelfoot Avenue at 3:02 a.m. July 30. They were observed in the computer aisle at 3:39 a.m. and were seen on video looking at the display computers, according to Union City Police Department investigator Derrick O’Dell.
The display computers are held by a security device attached to the bottom of the computers and the device is held to the display by a thin cable. The black man was observed on video pulling something out of his backpack — later determined to be a pair of wire cutters — and the white man was observed beside the Vizio laptop. He then clipped the cable and picked up the laptop, valued at $898, and placed it into the black man’s backpack. They then left the store without paying.
Police said the suspects also picked out an Xbox hard drive transfer cable valued at $19.98 and the black man was seen concealing the item in the clothing section at Walmart.
The suspects then returned at 5:38 a.m., again going to the laptop aisle. There, the white man clipped the wire to a Toshiba laptop, valued at $548; and, at 5:45 a.m., the black man picked up the computer and placed it into his backpack. They again left the store without paying.
The suspects were observed leaving in what is believed to be a navy blue Chevy Impala. The car appeared to have aluminum rims and a spoiler on the trunk. No tag was visible.
The total value of the thefts is $1,465.98.
Anyone who can identify the suspects is asked to call the Union City Police Department at 885-1515 or Crime Stoppers at 885-TIPS (885-8477). Crime Stoppers tips may also be mailed to: ucpd@ci.unioncity.tn.us. Crime Stoppers tipsters are guaranteed anonymity and could earn cash rewards for tips which solve cases.
