Area residents have been preparing for months for the Obion County Fair and the wait is almost over.
The annual event will kick off Monday at 5 p.m. at the Reelfoot Bank Stage for the grand opening and Hall of Fame ceremonies. Other events planned for the evening include the annual poultry show and auction, duck calling contest, KYTN Karaoke Idol Preliminaries and Teen and Fairest of the Fair pageants.
Tuesday’s events include junior market hog, lamb and steer shows and Obion County Junior Livestock Association auction; a Century Farms reception; Moto-X Racing; KYTN Karaoke Idol Finals; and pageants for Petite Miss, Little Miss and Junior Miss. Aug. 15 fairgoers can see the junior and open swine show and championship wrestling and participate in a cornhole tournament and stick horse rodeo.
Livestock shows continue on Aug. 16 and Aug. 17 with the junior and open beef show. Stormy Montana and Bucky Covington will perform on Aug. 16 and there will be a truck and tractor pull on Aug. 17. Senior Day will be held on the morning of Aug. 16 at Sunswept Baptist Church.
The annual pet show and mule show will be held that Saturday morning, followed by a garden tractor pull, breeding sheep show, tae-kwon-do exhibition, children’s games, kids bicycle give-away, wool and woolies revue, market lamb and commercial ewe show and demolition derby.
Area youth will also perform in the Fair Show Musical beginning Tuesday night and continuing each night.
Obion County residents will showcase their talents in competition at the fair. Many items were entered last Saturday. Additional categories to be entered this Saturday include antiques and horticulture in the Domestic Arts Building from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., junior culinary in the Junior Exhibits Building and junior and open crops in the Crops Exhibit Building from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and potted plants in the Domestic Arts Building from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Adult culinary will be accepted Monday in the Domestic Arts Building from 9 a.m. until noon. Cut flowers and arrangements will be accepted Wednesday in the Domestic Arts Building from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Season tickets are $25 per person, while general admission will be $6 for anyone age 13 and older and $4 for ages 6-12. Children ages 5 and younger will  be admitted free. On Tuesday and Aug. 16 there will be a special admission and hand stamp for $10. It includes admission to the fair and all carnival rides. Everyone, regardless of age, will pay this fee after 6 p.m. on these nights.
An armband special will be available Aug. 15 for $20 from 6 p.m. until closing and a special armband will be sold for $15 on Aug. 18 from 2-6 p.m. for $15. Aug. 18 is Kids Day and children will be admitted free 2-6 p.m. There will also be free admission to the fair for everyone on Aug. 18 from 10 p.m. until midnight. Senior citizens, ages 55 and older, and handicapped children will be admitted free from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Aug. 16.
