Jolley Springs Baptist Church news

The weather in our area has been so hot and dry that some of our farmers are now cutting their corn for silage. Those crops that were planted the earliest are the ones that have produced the best.

Our children's class in Sunday school studied about how the first missionaries were supported and sent out from the church at Antioch and that they later came back to the church to tell of their accomplishments. They learned that today’s missionaries are still sent out by the churches in that we give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering that supports foreign missionaries. They also learned that missionaries spend much of their vacation (furlough) to come to our churches and tell us what is happening in their work just as Paul and Barnabas did in our lesson.

Our church has a nursery provided for small children and we have Children's Church for ages 4 to 10 during the worship hour.

On Sunday morning, we were treated to Bro. Tony Michael singing "Sweet Beulah Land" for our special music. He was accompanied on the piano by his wife, Judy.

Bro. Tony used Hosea 11 for his sermon text. He told us God wants to have fellowship with us and that His will for us is to lead others to Him.

Neal and Mary King, along with Deanna and daughter, recently visited their daughter, Kristie, who is in the service in Colorado.

We were glad to have Tony Owen from Salisbury, N.C., visiting with us Sunday.

Our homecoming will be Aug. 26 with Sunday school at 10 a.m., a preaching service with Bro. Tony Michael at 11 a.m., and potluck lunch to follow. The Owens Family will be singing in the afternoon.

Brent and Kate Sims Lofton are the parents of a baby girl, Whitnee Elyse, born Friday in Union City.
