Authorities investigating burglaries
The Obion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a series of residential burglaries that have occurred over the past week, with two arrests already made, according to Chief Deputy Kent Treece.
John Edgar Hammond, 25, of Hornbeak and Steve Robert Jackson, 22, of Tiptonville were being held in the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex today and were scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. before General Sessions Judge Jimmy Smith. Both men are facing misdemeanor charges of theft of property under $500.
Hammond and Jackson stand accused of taking two sets of Stanley brand box wrenches, a Craftsman brand skill saw and about $200 worth of scrap metal from the Travis Johnson resident off West Highway 21 outside Hornbeak, according to Treece. The theft of the items was reported Thursday.
In a separate incident, the Keith Kendall residence on Shawtown Road was burglarized sometime during the week of July 21-26, when the Kendall family was out of town. Entry to the residence was gained forcibly through the front door and about $1,200 worth of jewelry was taken from the bedroom, according to Treece.
The burglary and theft were reported to the local sheriff’s department Friday and the stolen property has already been located. That case remains under investigation, according to Treece.
A third incident also remains under investigation. A Craftsman drill valued at $75 was reported stolen Friday from the James Long residence on Campground Road south of Troy.
The drill was taken after entry was gained forcibly into a locked shed, according to Treece.
Anyone with information about any of the three incidents under investigation should contact the Obion County Sheriff’s Department at 885-5832. Published in The Messenger 7.30.12
