WCP advertising department receives statewide awards
WCP advertising department receives statewide awards | Weakley County Press advertising department, Beth Cravens, Lynette Wagster, Suzanne Peckham, TPA, Ideas Contest

Graphic Designer Beth Cravens, Advertising Director and General Manager Lynette Wagster and Account Representative Suzanne Peckham
The Weakley County Press advertising department has some of the best ideas.
The proof is in the pudding.
For the second straight year, the newspaper’s advertising staff has won multiple awards in the Tennessee Press Association’s “Ideas Contest” at the organization’s Advertising and Circulation Conference in Nashville.
The Press took first place in the Best Automotive Ad category among non-daily papers with an entry that publicized “torrential savings” at Taylor Automotive during a period where strong storms and heavy rains plagued Weakley County.
The newspaper also claimed third place in the Best Sales Promotion competition with a series of ads that ran and promoted shopping locally with home-owned businesses.
The sequence of ads was designed to create foot traffic in downtown Martin businesses, boutiques and shops.
Press advertising director and general manager Lynette Wagster — with more than 27 years’ experience in the business — heads a staff that also includes graphic designer and editorial cartoonist Beth Cravens and account representative Suzanne Peckham.
“I have no doubt these honors are due to the dedication of our advertisers,” Wagster said. “The statewide recognition is something to be proud of, but what is more meaningful to us is the continued trust those advertisers have in our abilities to create award-winning ads from our local businesses.
“That these ads were campaigns for our hometown businesses is a testimony of our commitment to them as well as the great relationships we enjoy in our community with so many people. We are both humbled and proud.”
In addition to Wagster and her many years of dealing with the public in an advertising sales role, Cravens and Peckham are valuable members of both the advertising staff and the WCP as whole.
Cravens has been with the company for seven years and has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with a focus on visual arts.
She has the keen ability to customize an ad for any type of business and has been often noted for her creativity and customer service.
“Beth has had the training and creative skills that every business in our area needs to bring in customers with their ad,” Wagster said.
Peckham, a recent graduate of UT Martin with a degree in marketing, is a relative newcomer to The Press — but has hit the ground running.
She has educational and retail experience that can enable businesses to identify and reach their target markets while also determining their short-term and long-term objectives in promotions.
“Suzanne has come to us with a great attitude and work ethic, and our clients have been thrilled with her accessibility and ideas while getting the most out of their advertising dollar,” Wagster said in her evaluation of Peckham.
“All of us realize that we are a small community newspaper and we take great pride in the services we are able to provide in promoting all the businesses in every nook and cranny of Weakley County. We are proud to be a member of the community.”
