Late grand slam forces
Railroaders to Game 3

A two-out ninth-inning grand slam by Madisonville’s Michael Roehrig lifted the Pirates to an 8-7 victory over Fulton in Game 2 of their Ohio Valley League playoff series Thursday night at Lohaus Field.
The dramatic blow forced a third and deciding game of the series tonight at 7:05 in Fulton.
The winner will play the survivor the Hopkinsville/Owensboro series for the OVL championship. H’town leads that series 1-0 after Thursday’s game was rained out.
The Railroaders led Thursday’s game with Madison 5-0 after three innings before the visitors rallied to force a third game in the series.
Andrew Cash went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for Fulton, while Rob Hogenkamp scored two times.
The league’s championship series is set to begin Saturday night at either Fulton or Madisonville. Game 2 is slated for Sunday, with a third game, if needed, on tap for Monday.
Hopkinsville and Owensboro are scheduled to play a doubleheader tonight after Thursday’s rainout.

Ex-Vol football player
pleads guilty to charge

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Former University of Tennessee football player Cameron Clear has pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor theft.
According to The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/O0wccZ ), he was approved in Knox County General Sessions Court today for judicial diversion and will pay court costs. He had been charged with felony theft on grounds he stole a laptop computer from a dormitory room at the school in May.
Clear caught one pass as a freshman tight end last season. He was dismissed from the team in May.

Troubled Titan Britt
can’t practice just yet

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have placed Kenny Britt on the physically unable to perform list as the receiver recovers from his third surgery on his knees within the past 10 months.
The Titans also placed rookie safety Markelle Martin on the list Wednesday. Both can practice once they pass a physical.
Tennessee reports for training camp today, and Britt’s availability for practice was doubtful after the team confirmed he had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after the team’s minicamp in June. He tore his right ACL in September and had a second surgery on that knee in May.
Britt also was charged with driving under the influence July 20 when trying to drive onto the Fort Campbell Army installation.
In unrelated news, the Titans also waived undrafted rookie offensive lineman Chandler Burden.
