A bicyclist was injured this morning when he was struck by a car on East Main Street in Union City. Gregory Paul Barclay, 33, of 208 Hayes St., Union City, was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City and transferred a short time later to a Memphis hospital for treatment, according to Union City police. The hit-and-run accident occurred about 6 a.m. today while Barclay was riding a bicycle in the 1900 block of East Main Street. Barclay told police he was riding eastbound on East Main Street on the right side of the roadway and was going to cross over to the left side to make a left turn onto Town & Country Road. He made the turn and never saw the approaching car, according to Union City Police Department patrol officer Kevin Griffin. Barclay told Griffin the car tried to avoid him, but the vehicle’s right front hit him on the left side, knocking him off the bicycle. The car then proceeded eastbound and never stopped. Police are looking for a green car involved in the accident, which was still under investigation at press time today. Anyone who has information may contact the police department at 885-1515. Barclay is a new assistant principal at Obion County Central High School. He transferred from South Fulton Middle/High School.
