Charges pending against former
drug task force head
JACKSON (AP) — Theft charges are pending for the former director of a West Tennessee drug task force and his secretary. A charge against his son has been settled with a probationary sentence. The Jackson Sun reported Michael Lee was given a deferred probation of 11 months and 29 days. Authorities said if he behaves during that time, his charge of theft of property will be dropped. Lee’s father, Steve Lee, was indicted in January on charges of theft, official misconduct and knowingly giving a false statement to an auditor. Steve Lee is the former director of the 24th Judicial District drug task force. Former secretary Leona Longworth was also indicted. Their next court hearing is Sept. 10 in Carroll County.
Auditors found $5,565 missing a year ago.
Deputy, woman in patrol car
made ill by fumes
MURFREESBORO (AP) — A Rutherford County sheriff’s deputy and two people he was driving to a safe place after methamphetamine exposure have been decontaminated. The Daily News Journal reported Deputy Mark Gregory and a woman in his patrol car fell ill, apparently from meth fumes, Monday night. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni said Gregory found the woman and a man walking along a road late Monday. They said they had been in a home where meth was being cooked and were later kicked out of a van by a man suspected of making the drug.
As the deputy drove them to a safe place, he and the woman became ill. A team trained in meth decontamination responded to Middle Tennessee Medical Center to decontaminate the patients and the police car. Published in The WCP 7.26.12
