Chargers’ Reinhard among best in class

Adam Reinhard continued his assault on the goal throughout his senior year.
He would have preferred an invasion of Murfreesboro.
Easily one of the best soccer players in the history of the Westview program, Reinhard was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class A-AA All-State soccer team for the 2012 season.
“Adam may be the most complete player we’ve had here at Westview,” longtime Charger head coach Dan Scates said. “His offense is proof of that. But, he’s also a team leader. He would do anything he could to help the team win. I’m sure he’d sacrifice all those statistics to play in the state tournament. That’s what makes him a special player.”
Giving up all those stats would mean sacrificing a lot.
The recently-graduated forward scored 29 goals and added 10 assists during the 2012 season.
Following a solid regular season effort, he then led the way in the postseason as well by scoring five of his team’s six goals in the tournaments.
The Chargers knocked off Obion Central 4-1 in their Region 7A-AA opener, with Reinhard scoring three of those goals.
He then scored Westview’s lone goal in each of the next two matches, a 1-0 win over Crockett County in the semifinals and a 2-1 loss to Dyersburg in the tourney finals.
Westview was then blanked 1-0 in the sectional round against Kingsbury in Memphis. Kingsbury had five players named to the all-state team.
Kingsbury, which ended Westview’s season two years in a row, went on to finish as the state runner-up for the second consecutive season.
“The thing that pleased me most about Adam and our team this past year is that they stepped it up in the postseason,” Scates said. “We were only 2-2 in the playoffs, but we had maybe the toughest four-game postseason stretch since I’ve been here. And, they left it all on the field every game. They can all be proud of what they accomplished.”
Reinhard finished his impressive prep career with 97 goals and 36 assists.
One of the top students in Westview’s Class of 2012, Reinhard will attend Union University in Jackson as he works toward a career in the medical profession. Published in The WCP 7.24.12
