Fincher says I-69 funding will continue
Fincher says I-69 funding will continue | Fincher says I-69 funding will continue
By KEVIN BOWDEN
Staff Reporter
Congressman Stephen Fincher made his first appearance at the Obion County Courthouse Monday afternoon a very memorable one.
As part of his listening tour, the Frog Level Republican spent an hour fielding questions and explaining his position on several key issues.
Topics covered during the meeting included government spending, I-69 and the presidential race.
Fincher informed the more than 40 people at the meeting that a two-year federal transportation bill has passed, which could provide funding for such projects as I-69. He explained that he and others in Congress pushed for a five-year bill, but he said the two-year transportation legislation that was passed will at least keep federal funding in place for such projects as I-69.
The majority of Fincher’s courthouse appearance Monday was focused on the presidential race.
Fincher repeatedly advocated for voters to turn out this fall and replace President Obama with his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney.
It was a message that drew applause from the mostly Republican crowd.
In attendance at the meeting were several local officials as well as both Republican candidates running for the state Senate seat being vacated by state Sen. Roy Herron.
In response to a question about his support for raising the federal debt ceiling, Fincher explained his position, saying his vote came after numerous calls from the wives of military servicemen. Fincher said there was a chance the president could have inherited the right to manage all federal spending had Congress not voted the way it did on federal spending.
