Wreck yields charges

A woman was charged with driving under the influence after her vehicle hit a utility pole early Thursday on East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Union City.
Claudia Renee Watts, 51, of 509 Bank St., Union City, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license in connection with a crash that apparently occurred about 4 a.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police said Ms. Watts was traveling in the 400 block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when her 1999 Cadillac ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. She allegedly fled the scene, parking her vehicle in a private drive at 415 East College St., and she was found lying on the sidewalk on East College Street.
Ms. Watts was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment.
Police reported there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage inside Ms. Watts’ vehicle.
