Local Friends of NRA to hold banquet

Posted: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 9:04 pm

The Northwest Tennessee Friends of the National Rifle Association will be hosting a banquet and auction fund raiser at 6 p.m. July 28 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City.
The upcoming event will feature a meal, live and silent auctions, games, door prizes, and much more. A Henry Mare’s Leg 22LR Lever Action Pistol, donated by E. C. Pawn & Gun, will be given as a door prize the night of the event. Tickets may be purchased at E.C. Pawn & Gun in Martin or Hill’s Hardware in Union City, from committee members or online at www.friendsofnra.org/tn/events.
The Friends of NRA event raises money to support hundreds of community service programs related to firearm education, hunter safety, wildlife conservation, range improvements, youth marksmanship and law enforcement, among others through the NRA Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization.
The money raised is given to organizations like Boy Scouts, 4-H and trap and target teams through grants, as well as national programs like the Eddie Eagle GunSafe program, the Youth Education Summit and many other educational and safety services.
The Weakley and Obion County 4-H groups and the University of Tennessee at Martin 4-H Rifle Club and Clay Target Club are among the numerous organizations which have received grants from the NRA Foundation.
Half of the money raised by the Friends of NRA fundraiser will be spent in Tennessee, while the other half supports qualifying national-level programs. State Fund Committees made up of volunteers review grant applications from local organizations and make recommendations to the NRA Foundation on how the money might best be used in their areas.
