UC Leaders branch has new look

Posted: Monday, July 9, 2012 9:01 pm

Leaders Credit Union has opened its sixth and newest facility in the West Tennessee region, off South First Street in Union City. A ribbon cutting and open house were held at the local branch early today.
The credit union features a completely remodeled interior and some extensive work that has been done to upgrade the exterior of the building.
Leaders Credit Union is open from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and is located at 1500 South First St.
In November 2011, Leaders Credit Union merged assets and membership with Peoples Choice Credit Union, a longstanding financial institution in northwest Tennessee. The resulting membership for Leaders was more than 26,000 West Tennesseeans, making Leaders Credit Union the largest credit union in West Tennessee outside of Memphis.
Since that time, Leaders has invested more than $400,000 into its newest retail location, making both interior and exterior renovations to include new technology and a more efficient use of the space for its members.
“We wanted to convey our excitement to join the northwest Tennessee community in a very tangible way, and we believe that our newest branch definitely makes that statement,” Todd Swims, Leaders Credit Union’s President and CEO, said. “We hope that citizens of northwest Tennessee share our excitement as they experience the future of branch banking.”
The branch renovation includes many updates that both new and existing members will appreciate, according to Swims.
One of the most recognizable is the removal of the traditional teller counter in favor of a “dialogue-banking” station.  Instead of the traditional teller-row, members are now able to talk with staff members in a much less formal fashion.
“We are confident that this new style of banking will further cultivate the relationship and trust that our members have with our staff, and we believe that this model is a prototype for the future of retail banking,” Swims said.
The facility also features such comforts as an iPad bar and heritage wall, which includes more than 70 images showcasing local history over the past century.
A community room has also been added to the branch that is accessible to local organizations to host meetings and meals. The community room can handle small groups and has access to a full kitchen. The modular meeting room is also set up to handle teleconferencing.
One notable aspect of the renovation that has gained local attention was the removal of the vacant restaurant building adjacent to the branch.
Leaders Credit Union management felt that the building was a hindrance to visibility and was unlikely to attract its members to the new branch on South First Street.
“We wanted passers-by to see our branch and be proud of its addition to the Union City footprint,” Swims said.
