BEATING THE HEAT – Children, teens and adults were raising money for the Learning Enrichment Center at the Martin Housing Authority by selling lemonade, hot dogs, pickle pops and a yard sale. The group setup shop Wednesday and were out there through Saturday at the corner of Jackson and North McCombs Street. Brandy Hutson, who supervised the children said people have been very supportive with buying lots of lemonade and especially the pickle pops. “People have been really generous with donating and coming by to get some lemonade and pickle pops,” Hutson said. She said the group has been handling the heat pretty well by taking breaks, switching up every half hour in shifts and drinking lots of water and lemonade. Hutson said they have a host of events planned throughout the summer, but this is the only fundraiser they have arranged as of right now.
