By KEVIN BOWDEN
Staff Reporter
A full schedule of events has been planned as part of the upcoming Kenton White Squirrel Festival.
The six-day festival will kick off June 29 with a co-ed softball tournament starting at 6 p.m. There is a $100 entry fee per team and the tournament will continue starting a 9 a.m. on June 30 and at 6 p.m. on July 2, if necessary.
The Kenton Youth Center will host a tribute to the military and a flag ceremony at 8 a.m. on June 30, followed by a breakfast.
A community worship service will be held at the Kenton gym starting at 6 p.m. July 1.
First State Bank, across from Kenton City Hall, will host a business after hours and a reception for all military veterans from 5-7 p.m. July 2. This year, organizers have chosen to have military veterans serve as the grand marshals of the town’s festival parade.
The July 3 festival agenda will kick off with a spaghetti supper at the Kenton gym from 5-7 p.m. There is a $5 per adult and $3 per child admission fee. There will be bingo in the gym from 7-9 p.m. for 50 cents a game.
The grand finale of the Kenton White Squirrel Festival will take place July 4 with a 5K run beginning at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Kenton Gym. Registration will begin at 7 a.m.
The Kenton White Squirrel Festival Parade will line up in the former Plastech plant parking lot at 10 a.m. and will kick off at 11 a.m. The parade route will travel down Poplar Street and will turn west onto College Street.
There will be games for children beginning at noon, a street dance downtown from 7-10 p.m. and a fireworks show will begin at 10 p.m.
For more information about any of the events, contact organizers Faye Sharp at 446-5767, Angela Sanford at 693-2784 or Megan Sanford at 414-8545.
