The Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women recently held its May meeting at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with 13 members present.
President Chris Cheatham called the meeting to order and gave the prayer for both joys and concerns. She led the unit in reciting the pledge.
Emily Haynes read the minutes and Leanne Parnell gave the treasurer’s report.
Sandra McTurner presented the prayer calendar using the scripture reading from Isaiah 65: 17-25. The response moment was offered by Mrs. Cheatham. Ephesians 4:1 called us to “walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”
Program leader for the evening was Mrs. Cheatham. The title was “Pentecost: A Mighty Wind,” written by Yolanda Pupo-Ortiz. The goal of the program was to have a better understanding of the gifts of the spirit, to celebrate the birth of the church and to renew our vows to continue its mission.
A supplement to the program was taken from the “Upper Room” and entitled, “Enabled by the Spirit,” by Publisher Sarah Withe, reminding us t hat the Holy Spirit unites us as we carry the message of Christ’s salvation into the world. Other participants were Judith Wolfgang, Linda Winstead, Robert Peacock and Jerry Darnell.
To celebrate the birth of the church, everyone wrote her gift to the church on a card and placed it in a basket alongside a birthday cake onto which each member placed her lighted candle as a commitment to strengthen the Body of Christ.
“Breathe on Me,” was sung by the members and Mrs. Cheatham closed the meeting with prayer.
The next meeting will be at Stanley’s United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
