Assault leads to arrests

Posted: Monday, June 11, 2012 4:00 pm

The alleged assault against a Union City woman has led to the arrests of two people.
Mareshia Mays told Union City police she was assaulted by Mario Andre McElrath, 27, of 912 Casey Circle, Union City, on Friday as she pulled her vehicle up to the residence at 915 South Second St., Union City.
She said McElrath pulled up wanting the keys to her vehicle and, when she refused, he reached into her 1-year-old son’s diaper bag and grabbed her phone, throwing it into the street and breaking it. The baby was in Ms. Mays’ vehicle.
She alleges he then grabbed her and started choking her, throwing her on the hood of the vehicle and started punching her with his fist. The victim did have marks on her face and neck, according to the report.
McElrath was located at 509 Nash St, Apt. 3, and arrested on Friday. When officers arrived at the Nash Street apartment, they were given permission to enter and found McElrath in a back bedroom, the report states. While at the residence, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
The resident, Karnishia Shanee Blackwell, 19, of 509 Nash St., Apt. 3, told police she had just rolled blunts and told officers they could find them under the couch cushion. Officers also found digital scales and noted there was a marijuana “shake” on the coffee table.
Ms. Blackwell, who is 51⁄2 months pregnant, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule VI marijuana.
