Lael SS Class has meeting

Posted: Thursday, April 19, 2012 2:39 pm

The Messenger, April 19, 2012

Lael Sunday School Class of Union City First Baptist Church met in the fellowship hall for the regular monthly class meeting recently. Bobbie Adams, president, opened the meeting with prayer. Members recited “pledge of faith, believing  in God,” and then named those who were sick and needed prayers. Mrs. Adams led the prayer.
Dot Capps gave the devotion. She told about Jesus, Who rose from the dead, and said the word “gospel” means “good news.”
The new testament declares that the gospel consists of the death of Jesus for sins and His resurrection from death. These two events go together, it was noted. Without the cross, there would be no atoning sacrifice for human sins. Without the resurrection, the cross would be a defeat that cancels the saving power of the cross. Together, the cross and the resurrection provide the basis for salvation from sin and victory over death itself.
Joyce Stephens, the class teacher and hostess, served refreshments of chocolate-covered cherry cake with trail mix, nuts, Easter candy  and drinks.
Those present were Jean Eaker, Mrs. Adams, Trudie Thornton, Mrs. Stephens, Ms. Capps, Dorothy Ras-berry, Faye Passmore and Pat Cunningham.
The next meeting will be May 8, with Ms. Rasberry as hostess.
