Posted: Thursday, November 3, 2011 4:37 pm

The Messenger, November 3, 2011

Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women met recently at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church near Union City with nine members present.
President Chris Cheatham welcomed everyone and offered the opening prayer, following many expressions of concern and praise reports. She also led the members in reciting the Purpose.
Emily Haynes read the minutes and Leanne Parnell gave the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Parnell request the unit send a donation for postage toward Operation Christmas Child.
Donations to this year’s “Going the Extra Mile” project continue to be accepted. Grace Place Prison Ministry will be the recipient of this year’s offering.
Sandra McTurner presented names from the prayer calendar and read from John 6:25-35, which focuses on Jesus as the Bread of Life. She closed her part of the program by reading a prayer.
Mrs. Cheatham’s Res-ponse Moment centered around counting blessings, giving thanks in every situation and recognizing God as the giver of strength when His people are weak.
She announced a bake sale being held to honor Clorissa Wyatt, this year’s adult representative from Tennessee to the Lion’s Club Telethon. Funds raised will be donated in her name to the telethon.
Mrs. Parnell was the program leader for a session titled “Finding, Giving and Living Peace” by Inelda Gonzalez and Lida Vazquez. James 3:17-18 was the scripture focus and the worship table held cloths related to the five colors of mission giving: red, orange, yellow, blue and green. There was also a basket of the table to hold the pledges.
The program participants, along with Mrs. Parnell, included Becky Barnes, Mrs. Haynes, Mrs. Cheatham and Mrs. McTurner.
Everyone took part in a prayer, the litanies and the pledge.
Mrs. Parnell played “Where He Leads Me” as members placed pledge cards in the basket at the altar area.
The Rev. Judith Wolfgang offered the benediction.
The next meeting will be Wednesday at the church at 7 p.m. “Thank Banks” will be due at the session.
