The game’s greatest gridiron guru was indeed thisclose to truly being a positively-perfect prep pigskin prognosticator a week ago, only Trenton’s upset of Lake County spoiling the sensational sideline soothsayer’s shot at an unblemished scorecard.

DRESDEN AT UNION CITY — The Lions represent the fourth ranked opponent on UC’s schedule through just six weeks, though they’re likely not in the class of the other three. Still, QB Gatlin Hatchel has been a handful for opponents with nine touchdowns either running or passing in the past two games combined and Dresden should be at or near full-strength for the Tornadoes after several regulars either sat out or were hobbled last week due to injuries. The Twisters meanwhile, are honestly capable of pulling an upset, though the good-news, bad-news on the injury front this week has tempered those prospects. On the plus-side, starting quarterback Travis Rutland received clearance to resume practice after missing the entire season due to finger surgery and could possibly see action. The bad word however, is that center Brett Gore re-injured his knee and likely is out again indefinitely, robbing Union City its best lineman and possibly causing more center-QB exchange issues. And while infamous Dresden alumnus and former UC team doctor Sam Bradberry is torn between trying to squeeze into his old Lion letter jacket or remaining loyal to the town who adopted him when no other would, the Hitman struggled likewise in calling what should be a toss-up. Blame it on Sam I Am. — DRESDEN.
OBION CENTRAL AT MONTGOMERY CENTRAL — The Rebels will venture out of their comfort zone with a long road trip to an unfamiliar destination as Shawn Jackson attempts to create some adversity for his team that has had little while not trailing for a single second in five games so far. A roster of superior talent, a favorable schedule and no significant injuries has meant smooth sailing to-date for OC which can match the program’s best-ever start with a sixth consecutive win to begin the season. The Indians reportedly have some playmakers on offense and will create a different environment while indeed altering Central’s usual routine. What MC won’t likely be able to control though, is the Rebs’ plethora of talent on offense, and the dangling carrot that is the extra incentive of marching toward perhaps greater history down the road than a 6-0 start. — OBION CENTRAL.
SOUTH FULTON AT GLEASON — Perhaps a defining game for whomever wins, this one could ultimately decide which — if either — makes the playoffs despite the matchup’s non-district status. The Hitman’s homeboys will actually find out more about themselves in this one game than they did in their previous two which were both victories. They’ve not played well at the ’Dawg Pound during Kelly Spivey’s four-year tenure at South Fulton, and will face a quality opponent that beat state-ranked McKenzie everywhere except the scoreboard last week. And if the Devils are truly going to get over the hump of their 0-3 start, this will stamp their seal as a contender for better things in the final month of the season. A shaky nod to — SOUTH FULTON.
