The Messenger, August 18, 2011 The Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women met recently at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church, located near Union City, with 11 members present. President Chris Cheatham welcomed everyone and asked for prayer concerns, followed by the offering of that prayer. Emily Haynes read the minutes of the previous session and Leanne Parnell gave the treasurer’s report. Sandra McTurner presented the prayer calendar and added scripture from Matthew 8:23-27, in which Jesus stills the storm. Mrs. Cheatham provided the Response portion of the program and noted the impact UMW units have had around the world since the first unit was organized in 1869 in Boston. Mrs. McTurner was program leader and she presented Judith Okerson’s “Discovering Faith.” Rosemary Coleman gave the mission focus and read scripture that included Acts 9:1-19, Jeremiah 1:4-8 and I Samuel 1:11. Mrs. McTurner led the unit in reciting the litany, with Linda Winstead serving as song leader for “It Is Well With My Soul.” Mrs. Blanton, Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Haynes performed a skit focusing on Noemie and Paulette, women of faith who were willing to serve. Mrs. McTurner closed the session with prayer. The next meeting will be Fall Fling at Brandy’s Restaurant in Martin at 6 p.m. Sept. 14.
