The Big River Bowl scheduled in Dyersburg Aug. 27 has been cancelled. Officials in charge of the bowl were unable to secure an opponent to face the Wildcats in what was to be Bethel’s 2011 season opener. The Cats will open their season Saturday, Sept. 3 at home against Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. It will be the first of five home games in the 10-game schedule. Bethel head coach Dino Kaklis was disappointed in the cancellation but is looking forward to the upcoming season. “We were certainly looking forward to playing in the game in Dyersburg,” Kaklis said. “The officials there worked hard in trying to find an opponent for us but in the end it simply did not work out. “We are extremely excited about our team and season. We know our fans will come out and support us as they always do” The Cats report for fall practice Aug. 5. The Wildcats were 5-5 last season. However, Bethel finished with a bang in 2010. The Wildcats won four of their last six games last year. All totaled, Bethel returns nine starters on an offensive unit that averaged 433 yards and 39 points per game. Kaklis will begin his tenth season as head coach this fall. He is 52-43 entering the 2011 campaign as the skipper at Bethel.
