Coming off the best cross country season in head coach Gordon Sanders’ tenure at UT Martin, the future continues to look bright for the Skyhawks as a pair of incoming signees have excelled, while wrapping up their prep careers. Hannah Northam, of Arlington, is one of five finalists for The Commercial Appeal/Pepsi “Best of the Preps” award for the Shelby Suburban area. She recently wrapped up a season in which she set five personal bests, capped off with a 15th place finish in the 1600 meter event at the TSSAA Class AAA sectionals. Adam Merook, slated to join the Skyhawks out of Morristown-West, helped the Trojans to a state title in the 3200-meter relays. Merook, manning the anchor leg, posted a personal-best time of 1:59 to help Morristown-West complete the relay in 8:01.78. This past season under head coach Gordon Sanders, UT Martin bested five school records, earned its second-ever Ohio Valley Conference athlete of the week honor and the men’s team posted the best finish in program history at the OVC cross country championships.
