Blanked Marlins hit ‘snag’ at Braves

ATLANTA (AP) — Tommy Hanson pitched four-hit ball over seven innings for his first victory, Jason Heyward and Brian McCann homered, and Chipper Jones drove in two runs to lead Atlanta past Florida 5-0.
Hanson (1-2) finally got a few runs to work with and the Braves turned in several nifty defensive plays, two of them diving stops by shortstop Alex Gonzalez.
The Braves struggled offensively over their first 10 games, scoring three runs or fewer seven times — including both of Hanson’s starts.
This time, that wasn’t a problem.
Heyward homered in the fourth, McCann in the fifth.
Chris Volstad (0-1) took the loss.
He was chased in the fifth after allowing right hits and all five runs.
D’backs 13, Cardinals 8
PHOENIX (AP) — Justin Upton and Juan Miranda each hit three-run homers, Chris Young added a two-run shot and Arizona scored seven of its runs with two outs.
Armando Galarraga (2-0) allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings to earn the victory.
He labored through most of the fifth — allowing two runs — before escaping a bases-loaded jam.
Chris Carpenter, who came in 4-0 in 10 career starts against Arizona, gave up at least one run in every inning he pitched — eight total in four innings — and dropped to 0-2,
Lance Berkman, David Freese and Colby Rasmus had solo home runs for St. Louis.
Astros 11, Cubs 2
HOUSTON (AP) — Brett Myers kept up his dominance against Chicago, and Angel Sanchez tied a career high with four hits to help Houston rout the Cubs.
Myers (1-0) limited Chicago to eight hits and one run in seven innings to improve to 11-3 against the Cubs.
Houston scored three runs off James Russell (1-1) in the first inning, two more in the second and built a 7-0 lead after Sanchez singled in two runs in the fourth.
Russell was making his first career start after 59 relief appearances as a replacement for the injured Andrew Cashner.
Russell allowed seven hits and five runs in 12⁄3 innings.
Reds 8, Padres 2 (11)
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Ryan Hanigan hit a go-ahead double and Drew Stubbs launched a three-run homer that capped Cincinnati’s six-run burst in the 11th inning.
The Padres nearly won in the ninth when Cameron Maybin hit a drive with two outs and the bases loaded.
Maybin put up his hands to celebrate, but right fielder Jay Bruce recovered from a false step in and broke back to make the catch.
Hanigan’s double into the left-field corner off Cory Luebke (0-1) scored Jonny Gomes, who was running on the 3-2 pitch from first base.
After pinch-hitter Chris Heisey and Edgar Renteria had RBI singles, Stubbs homered.
Logan Ondrusek (2-0) got out of bases-loaded jams in the ninth and 10th innings. Ondrusek, who was 5-0 last season as a rookie, became the first Reds pitcher to start his career 7-0 since 1986-87.
