Posted: Thursday, March 24, 2011 2:57 pm

The Messenger, March 24, 2011
Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women met in March at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church near Union City with 12 members present.
President Chris Cheatham opened the meeting by welcoming those in attendance and leading in prayer after many requests and concerns were mentioned.
Members recited the Purpose and Emily Haynes reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting, with Leanne Parnell providing the treasurer’s report.
Sandra McTurner presented the prayer calendar and scripture readings from Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21. Serena Blanton read a prayer entitled “Ash Wednesday.”
Kathy Forrester announced an event to raise money for Agape House in Martin April 9 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Union City Second Baptist Church and invited everyone who is interested to sit at a table she will be hosting for the event. The speaker will be Dr. Bruce Wilkinson, who is the author of “The Prayer of Jabez.”
Mrs. Cheatham and Jenny Darnall represented the unit at a recent study on the Sudan, presented by Beth Brown at Fulton First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Parnell summarized the fifth chapter, “Predicament, Privilege and Providence,” from the study of Esther from the book “Esther: A Woman of Faith.” Linda Winstead will present the sixth chapter in April.
Mrs. Cheatham led the program on Ash Wednesday, utilizing a focal point that included an impressive display of a silver tray holding a framed cross with the Serenity Prayer and ashes — symbolic of the occasion.
Others participating were Roberta Peacock, Miss Darnall and Mrs. Winstead.
Scripture readings, an Ash Wednesday poem and a responsive reading were used.
The next meeting will be April 13 at 7 p.m. at the church.
