Cursing Cal at UK ‘swears’ he’s sorry

Posted: Thursday, January 20, 2011 5:27 pm

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky coach John Calipari has apologized for his profanity-laced tirade toward freshman Terrence Jones.
Calipari apologized on his Twitter and Facebook pages early Wednesday after television cameras caught him cursing Jones Tuesday night during Kentucky’s 68-66 loss.
Calipari says he “got caught up in the emotion of the game,” but added that it isn’t an excuse.
The talented Jones has raised Calipari’s ire lately for what the coach deems as selfish play.
Jones finished with a team-high 17 points against Alabama, but also committed four turnovers and deviated from the final play as time expired — taking the final shot that Calipari wanted Doron Lamb to shoot.
The Wildcats (14-4, 2-2) play at South Carolina on Saturday.
In other news related to the Kentucky basketball program, Mississippi State guard Twany Beckham has transferred in.
Beckham, who is from Louisville, Ky., has already enrolled at Kentucky and will join the team as a walk-on next year.
He will be eligible at the conclusion of the 2011 winter semester.
Beckham played 33 games in the 2008-09 season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds. He redshirted the 2009-10 season after having surgery on both hips.
He’ll join a crowded Kentucky backcourt that could include current freshmen Brandon Knight and Doron Lamb as well as incoming freshman Marquis Teague.
