By Sabrina Bates Chief Staff Writer A convicted sex offender is being housed at the Weakley County Detention Center after she was accused of committing the same crime that landed her on the sex offender registry earlier this year. Alexander David Cross, also known as Elaine Ann Cross, of Snyder Road in Martin has been charged with aggravated statutory rape for her alleged sexual relations with a 16-year-old. Cross, 43, made headlines across the state in March of this year when she spent 10 days in the Hamilton County Jail in the men’s detention area under the name Alexander Cross. She had gone more than a week without a shower and it wasn’t until then that officers realized that he, was indeed, a she. Cross plead guilty to charges of having oral sex with a 15-year-old girl in east Tennessee and received a two year suspended sentence and six years probation. According to WDEF out of Chattanooga, Cross’ driver's license had the gender of a man, which was changed to female as part of her guilty plea. WDEF, a television station out of Chattanooga, also reported that Cross’ first victim had no idea of Cross’ true gender until after Cross’ arrest and the discovery at the jail. According to her most recent affidavit of complaint, Cross admitted to Weakley County Sheriff’s Investigators that she engaged in oral sex with the victim on at least two occasions. The report states the incidents occurred at the victim’s home. WCSD Inv. Marty Plunk said Cross was convicted last year for having sexual relations with a 16-year-old female in Hamilton County. Plunk added that “Cross was born female, is still a female, but lives as a man.” Cross has been a registered sex offender since her July 2006 conviction of statutory rape in Chattanooga. Cross is being held on a $50,000 bond. Her arraignment was Wednesday in Weakley County General Sessions Court.
