Dresden earns sweep when boys erase deficit
Dresden earns sweep when boys erase deficit | Dresden Lady Lions, Jesica Parsley, Dillon Matlock, Alex Glisson, Huntingdon Mustangs

Using an 11-point run in the fourth quarter, the Dresden Lions overcame a slow start and made it a district sweep of Huntingdon this past Tuesday night in Dresden.
In the first game, the Lady Lions won handily over the Fillies, 68-49, and though the Lions trailed by six at the end of three quarters in the second contest, they made up for it at the free-throw line in the final frame to win 48-43.
Dylan Clifft scored the first basket of the second contest for the Mustangs, but the Lions, led by Alex Robinson with four and Dillon Matlock with three, scored the next nine points and led 9-2 after one.
Five straight points from Sean Kendall cut the Lion lead to two, 9-7, at the start of the second. Battling back and forth, Dresden took a four-point lead on a Jacob Vallee layup, 13-9, but saw the advantage disappear on drives to the basket by Clifft. Robinson hit a shot at the buzzer, but the Lions trailed 17-15 at the half.
Robinson and Tyler McPeak scored the first four points for Dresden and the home team took a 19-17 lead to start the third. Matlock and Clifft traded layups before Huntingdon went on an 8-0 run to lead 27-21 with 4:14 left in the third. McPeak, Daniel Harris and Robinson cut the lead to three with a minute remaining, but Kendall made a layup just before the end of the third to put Huntingdon in front, 31-26.
Kendall hit one of two from the line to increase the lead to six, 32-26. McPeak knocked down a pair of free throws and, after Kendall again went one for two, Dresden used an 11-0 run highlighted by two Matlock layups to lead 39-33. Clifft connected from long distance and the Mustangs tried a comeback, but the Lions stayed consistent from the line going 14 of 20 for the quarter and out-scoring the visitors 22-12 to win 48-43.
Matlock led Dresden with 15 points. Robinson scored 10. Clifft had 17 for Huntingdon.
In the girls game, the score remained close in the first quarter in which it was tied at 12, but the Lady Lions pulled away in the second and eventually won, 68-49. The 68 points for the Dresden girls is a season high, bettering their output of 66 against Clarksburg on Jan. 5.
In their first three possessions, the Fillies committed three turnovers and Dresden raced to a 6-0 lead. Mikelsey Jordan and Allee Maxwell led HHS back and with 1:33 left, the score was tied at 10. Maxwell knocked down a shot in the paint, but Jesica Parsley hit a baseline jumpshot to tie the score at 12 after one.
Amy Reddick drilled a jumper to open the second with a 14-12 lead for Dresden. Heather Todd answered for the Fillies, but Reddick connected from long distance and Courtney McMillin tossed in a layup to put the Lady Lions ahead 19-14. Alex Glisson increased the Dresden lead to eight, 24-16. The Fillies cut the lead to six, but a 3-pointer from Reddick at the end of the half gave the home team a 33-20 advantage.
Parsley and Reddick continued to knock down threes in the third and Dresden led 51-35 going into the fourth.
Jordan sliced the lead to 13 on a 3-point play, but Parsley led the Lady Lion charge with six and the home squad won easily, 68-49.
Parsley was high scorer for Dresden with 21 points. Glisson scored 15 and Reddick put up 14. Jordan led Huntingdon and all scorers with 22.
