By JONATHAN KISER Special to The Messenger Several area stars will perform during the 53rd Annual Telethon of Stars Saturday and Sunday at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center in downtown Paducah, Ky. Scheduled to perform from Tennessee are Mark Dowdy, Stacie Hines and the husband and wife duo of Nathan and Lindsay Herron. The Herrons, hailing from Nashville, will be bringing their song and praise to the telethon this year. Herron was one of the top 20 male finalists during season four of the show American Idol and was also one of the eight finalists during the premier season of the CMT series, “Can You Duet?” Long-time telethon performer Stacie Hines will be making her 11th appearance this year. She has been performing on the telethon since 1999, when she was only 10 years old. In May, she graduated cum laude from Belmont University in Nashville with a bachelor’s degree and is pursuing a second degree at Belmont in music business. Dowdy, with Red Ridge Entertainment in Nashville, has recently headlined the Nashville Legends Concert in Eureka Springs, Ark., and has opened for many Grand Ole Opry stars such as Waylon Jennings and the Oak Ridge Boys. The father of two from the Paducah area will be showcasing his keyboarding and singing skills. He has played piano for the gospel group, Sounds of Faith, performed for a country music show for six years, and has been a regular member of the cast of Variety Music Memories and More in Grand Rivers, Ky. The Telethon of Stars is a free, 15-hour show, open to the public. Diamond Rio will headline this year’s Telethon, with Ball in the House, The Josh Williams Band, Reggie LaFaye, Eric Horner, Lew & 61 South, Jaimee English and Ray Ligon performing. NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” star Jay Kenneth Johnson, who plays Philip Kiriakis, will also make a guest appearance. More information can be found at www.telethonofstars.org. Donations to the telethon received from Tennessee stay in Tennessee to benefit Community Developmental Services (CDS). CDS is a community-based, nonprofit organization that provides support to approximately 140 adults with developmental disabilities in Weakley, Obion, Henry, Carroll and Lake counties. Along with CDS, beneficiaries of the Telethon include Easter Seals West Kentucky in Paducah, T.L.C. of Southern Illinois in Marion and Easter Seals Southeast Missouri. All centers serve individuals with disabilities and other special needs. Published in The Messenger 11.11.09 |
