Arrest made in dog fighting operation in Weakley County
A search warrant has apparently led to the discovery of a dog fighting operation on the northern outskirts of Weakley County.
According to a press release issued by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, WCSD and Stoddard County, Mo. investigators and the Missouri Humane Society conducted a search warrant of a residence on Buck Mason Road in northern Weakley County on Oct. 26.
The action came five days after Curtis Pickering was arrested by Missouri law enforcement officials on Oct. 21 on charges of animal abuse, dog fighting and possession of dog fighting paraphernalia.
Pickering’s arrest in Missouri resulted in a search warrant by both states. They searched Pickering's residence on Buck Mason Road and reported they found a multitude of intriguing evidence that dog fighting was occuring in Pickering's home.
The release cites officers found numerous items linked to dog fighting including veterinary records, pictures of pit bulls, notes detailing which dogs were to be fought, dog harnesses used to train dogs to fight, ledgers dealing with dog fighting and materials used to make tools that pry open a dog’s jaw from another dog.
Investigators also claim to have a “homemade” tape which shows Pickering engaged in pit bull fighting in a building on Buck Mason Road.
Personnel with the wildlife resources agency also took possession of a small alligator owned by Pickering from the scene.
Officers cited they plan to present the findings of the search warrant as evidence to the January term of the Weakley County Grand Jury.
Pickering is being held in Stoddard County, Mo. on a $130,000 cash-only bond.
