Weakley County drivers first to finish
Weakley County residents were winners in four of the five classes during drag racing Saturday night at Northwest Tennessee Motorsports in Gleason.
In addition to the four winners, Weakley County is the home to one of the runner-up drivers.
Starting with the youngest drivers, Gleason resident Lawson Roberts took the top prize in the 8-12 age division with a junior dragster hitting a speed of 73.27 mph. Kayla Lynch, of Pleasant View, took second place with her junior dragster topping out at 65.68 mph.
Palmersville resident Joey Caldwell was fastest to the finish line in the 13-17 age bracket. Caldwell's junior dragster covered the distance quickly thanks to reaching a speed of 78.36 mph. Finishing as runner-up was Waverly resident Baylee Coffelt, with a junior dragster hitting a speed of 82.40.
In the Footbrake division, Dresden's Mike Peeler drove his 1969 Road Runner to the win, with a top speed of 95.92 mph. Mitchell Walker, from Greenfield, took second place in a 1974 Nova with a speed of 75.86 mph.
In the Pro (no box) division, it was Peeler again earning the win in his 1969 Road Runner. Peeler pushed his ride to a speed of 99.14 mph in the winning run. Taking second place was Brooks Underwood from Murray, Ky. Underwood drove his 1981 Camaro to a speed of 93.93 mph.
In the Super Pro bracket, Whites Creek resident Jacob Whittle was the quickest across the line in his 1977 Vega, peaking at 60.88 mph. Tony Baker, from New Johnsonville, was the runner-up in his 1967 Chevy II. Baker pushed his ride to 114.22 mph but fouled at the start.
