Multiple charges have been filed against several people in connection with separate theft incidents in Union City.
Brian O’Neil Tolley, 22, of 811 West Reelfoot Ave., Lot 47, Union City, and Bobby A. Morton of 212 Chivers Drive, Union City, were both arrested last week on theft charges stemming from recent incidents involving the alleged theft of jewelry, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had been summoned April 21 to 811 West Reelfoot Ave., Lot 36, where Glendon Batts told police she was going through her safe and noticed someone had taken a cloth case that contained her valuable jewelry. The missing items included diamond rings and necklaces, as well as other rings, necklaces and earrings that contained precious gems, a gold watch, a wedding band and a gold bracelet.
On May 14, police responded to 811 West Reelfoot Ave., Lot 76, where Betty Marlene Rittenberry told police she noticed some jewelry was missing from her jewelry cabinet. The missing items included several rings with precious gems and a wide gold wedding band, in addition to some Hydrocodone pills.
An investigation was launched by police and Tolley was arrested after a search of his residence yielded some of the stolen jewelry. Morton was then arrested after a search warrant was executed at his residence and police located more stolen jewelry, according to the report.
In a separate incident over the weekend, a Troy man and a Rives teenager were arrested in connection with alleged vehicle burglaries in the Stone Road area of Union City.
Weylin Patrick Green, 21, of 811 Church St., Troy, was arrested about 4 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Stone Road and charged with auto burglary, theft under $500, vandalism and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, while a 16-year-old rural Rives boy — whose name has not been disclosed by police because he is juvenile — was taken into custody about the same time in the 1700 block of East Reelfoot Avenue in Union City and charged with auto burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and curfew violation, according to Union City Police Department reports.
Police had responded about 3:15 a.m. Sunday to 1732 Stone Road, where a caller said he was watching two people breaking into vehicles in the parking lot. An officer found one of the alleged suspects, later identified as Green, running from the area and started a pursuit south toward Stone Street. He allegedly continued to run until other officers arrived in their patrol vehicles, at which time he stopped and allegedly threw a tote bag and a knife into a fence row, police reported.
A sheriff’s deputy who was in the area told police he noticed a second subject and the juvenile was taken into custody inside a gated residence on East Reelfoot Avenue. The juvenile allegedly had a baggy with a green residue believed to be marijuana.
At the time of the report, police had located five victims of auto burglary, as well as an attempted burglary of an office area at the Stone Street apartment complex, according to the report.
