| A Kenton man died Friday evening after his motorcycle crashed with a vehicle on State Route 89 at Sturdivant Road in rural Obion County. U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kirby Weaver, 26, who served as a recruiter at the Martin recruiting office, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that occurred about 6:40 p.m. in the Kenton area, the Tennessee Department of Safety reported. Weaver was westbound on State Route 89, negotiating a sharp curve to the right, when his 2008 Honda CDR 1000 motorcycle apparently crossed the centerline at the intersection with Sturdivant Road. The motorcycle struck the front of a 1996 Ford Contour driven by a 17-year-old Kenton teenager, who was eastbound on State Route 89, according to Mike Browning, director of public affairs for the Department of Safety. The Department of Safety is not releasing the name of the 17-year-old because she is a juvenile. The teenager was taken by private car to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment. The accident remains under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which reported Weaver was wearing a helmet and was traveling alone at the time of the wreck. Weaver apparently was driving home from work when the accident occurred, according to sources. A military funeral is planned for Tuesday (See related obituary, Page 6.)
