JACKSON (AP) — One of two men accused of plotting to kill President Barack Obama, while he was a candidate for the office, and dozens of other black people has failed to get a threat charge against him dismissed.
A federal judge in Jackson says the threat charge will remain in the multi-count indictment against accused white supremacist Paul Schlesselman. The 18-year-old Schlesselman of Helena-West Helena, Ark., and 20-year-old Daniel Cowart of Bells are charged with planning a killing spree targeting black victims that would end with an attack on Obama. They have been jailed at Obion County Law Enforcement Complex without bond since October. No trial date has been set. Schlesselman argued in a court petition that the alleged threats came during questioning by law enforcement officers and could not have been carried out. Judge J. Daniel Breen rejected that argument Tuesday.
