Inclement weather
alters prep slate
Wednesday’s inclement weather altered the local high school baseball slate and resulted in a rescheduled doubleheader for Friday that will include all three prep teams.
Obion Central will now host South Fulton at 4 and then Union City at 6 p.m.
Originally, OC was to play SF in a varsity twinbill on Wedneday and UC in a jayvee game Friday before a varsity matchup.
Union City’s game with McKenzie, scheduled for today, was also postponed and is scheduled to be made up next Wednesday.
UC Softball League
in need of coaches
There will be a meeting of the parents of girls in the Union City Softball League for children in the 4-6, 7-8, and 11-12 age groups at 6 Monday night at the activities building in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
All parents of girls of the aforementioned ages need to attend.
The parking lot and the entrance to the building are at the corner of Home and High streets.
The purpose of the meeting is to find coaches for teams. The league currently has needs for head coaches and assistants.
If sufficient numbers of coaches are not located at this meeting, then the age groups lacking coaches will be reduced or disbanded and registration fee refunds offered.
For more information, contact league president Randy Chism at 885-2011 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Local Civitan Club
sponsoring 5K event
The Union City Civitan Club will sponsor a 5K fun run/walk, “Running for Prevention 2009,” April 18 at Goodyear’s Wingfoot Park in Union City.
The course will begin with registration at the park. Registration will start at 8 a.m., followed by warmup time at 8:30, opening ceremonies at 8:45 and the run/walk at 9 a.m.
Pre-registration is $15 per person, with the fee to be $18 on race day.
Awards will be presented to first-place overall male and female and three deep in several age groups from ages 14 and under through ages 70-plus.
For more information or to obtain an entry form, contact Lori Hendon at (731) 587-0768 or Carl Minor at 885-6109. The entry forms include a waiver and a place to list the participant’s T-shirt size, as well as an address where entry forms and payment may be mailed.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and the Civitan Club.
USTA adult leagues
forming in Kentucky

This league — open to adults — is based in Kentucky, but it has a Union City team in need of players, according to a league spokesman.
Play levels start at beginner and move up to advanced.
