| Fire Prevention Festival |

The Greenfield Fire Department will host the 19th Annual Fire Prevention Festival the week of Oct. 8-13. Several activities are planned for Fire Prevention Day on Saturday, Oct. 13. These activities include events of interest for children and adults. Starting at 9 a.m. that day, there will be an Open House at the GFD for the public with several antique fire trucks on display. The children can meet Smokey the Bear, Fire Pup and take free fire truck rides.
For the adults, there will be free blood pressure checks and the LIFELINE Bloodmobile will be available for those wanting to give blood. Exhibitors will have fire safety items such as smoke detectors, extinguishers and collectibles for sale. Fingerprinting for children ages 1-12 will be conducted by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department. The Tennessee Division of Forestry will have their equipment on display. From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Hospital Wing helicopter from Memphis will be on display. The Air Evac Life Team will also be present with their helicopter. The local National Guard units will have equipment in the parade and will also be on display at the fire station, along with the climbing wall.
A Bag Pipe Band will perform during the parade and also that morning. This year the car show returns. See schedule for details.
The line-up for the parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Southern Source parking lot, located on Greenfield Products Road. The parade starts at 2 p.m. All floats, cars, trucks, horses and walk-in entries are invited. No three-wheelers or four-wheelers are allowed in the parade. There will be numerous fire departments, rescue squads and EMS personnel with equipment on display and in the parade. Everyone is invited to come and join the festivities.
The Greenfield merchants will have a sidewalk sale on Saturday, Oct. 13. Various groups and organizations will have bake sales all along Front Street in downtown Greenfield. The Greenfield Booster Club will provide concessions, which include hamburgers, barbecue by the pound, barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs and drinks.
Once again this year, there will be a fireworks display to close the festival at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The best location to view the display is Front Street looking north.
Billy Swindell, community volunteer, has been named as this year’s Greenfield Fire Prevention Festival Grand Marshal.

• Tuesday, Oct. 9
A Chili and Potato Bar which includes dessert and a drink will be held at the Senior Citizens center at the park pavilion from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost of the luncheon is $5. Contact Billy Swindell at 235-2815 or Suzann Kroll at 235-9213. Donations will be taken for a country ham, to be given away on Saturday, Oct. 7 at noon. Donations are 3/$1. All money goes to the Nutrition Site and Senior Citizens Center.
• Wednesday, Oct. 10
HEALTHSOUTH Cane Creek will sponsor Greenfield Fire Prevention Kick-off Breakfast at the Greenfield fire station from 6-9 a.m. Enjoy homemade waffles, sausage, coffee and juice for $5 with proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society. • Thursday, Oct. 11
The Greenfield Fire Department will be sponsoring a Spaghetti Supper from 5-7 p.m. The supper will be held at the Greenfield Elementary cafeteria. This is a fundraiser to buy equipment. The cost is $6. Contact Ray Ann Dudley at 235-3803.
• Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14
Barbecue Cook-off with set-up on Thursday at 11 a.m. located in the Greenfield City Park. Categories include:
* Ribs – 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
* Shoulder – 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
* Back yard — 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Judging will start Saturday at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $40 for all categories. For more information contact Brent Wright at Whitehouse Tire at 235-0577 or 431-3046.
• Friday, Oct. 12
The Rotary Club will have a Fish Fry from 5-7 p.m. They will be serving fried fish, hush puppies, beans and slaw at the school cafeteria. The cost is $6. To go orders are available. Contact any Rotarian for more information or to place orders.
• Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13
A new attraction will be set up this year from Extreme Thrills out of Jackson. There will be five different rides and adventures.
• Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13
Reggie’s Barbecue and concessions from Jackson will be on hand with food and drinks.
• Saturday, Oct. 13
* 10th Annual Arts and Crafts Show will be held at the Mini Park in downtown Greenfield. Setup by Saturday, Oct. 7 at 8 a.m. Space is limited. For reservations, call the Greenfield Banking Company at 235-2207 and ask for Lana Caudle. The fee for spaces is $10. No provisions for bad weather. Vendors are not allowed under the awning.
* The annual 5K Run will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the Greenfield Banking Company with registration beginning at 7 a.m. For additional information, contact Keith Tucker at 235-9027. The entry fee is $15 and t-shirts will be given to all participating runners. Master trophies will be given to first, second and third place winners. Also proceeds go to Project Graduation.
* Entries for the Car Show need to sign up at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. First and second place trophies in all classes will be given. The location will be at the corner of Broad North Second streets. * The lineup for the parade begins at 1 p.m. at Southern Source parking lot on Greenfield Products Road. The parade starts at 2 p.m.
* The Meridian Cumberland Presbyterian Church will sponsor a Ham and Bean Supper and Gospel Singing, featuring the Meridian Puppets. The event located in the middle block of downtown Greenfield begins at 4:30 p.m. and lasts until 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults (ham and beans, cornbread, dessert, drink) and 43 for children (hotdog, chips, dessert, drink).
* After dinner, stick around and enjoy Red Hot Tunes which will feature local community talent. For more information, contact Lisa Hilliard at 235-2646.
* Fireworks Display at 8 p.m. will help close out this year’s festival. The carnival will be open until 11 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 13, More events:
* 7 a.m. – Exhibitors will start setting up.
