Helping Those We Love by Remembering Those We've Lost

New York, NY—May 6, 2008—Memory-Of.com, the world's largest online memorial website, announced today the launch of 'A Mother's Day Month of Remembrance' campaign to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and First Candle.

This Mother's Day, and for the entire month of May, Memory-Of.com invites online users to light a virtual candle in honor of a deceased mother, grandmother, godmother, son or daughter. The month of May at Memory-Of.com will be a time to honor and pay tribute to the unique bond between mother and child.

"Mother's Day can be such a special time for many families. But for those who are coping with the loss of a mother, or a mother grieving for the loss of her child, it can be the most trying time of the healing process. We hope that with this Month of Remembrance we can honor and commemorate these women and children, not only by symbolically illuminating their legacies with online candle lightings, but also by giving the lasting gift of a donation to a cause that benefits so many mothers and children across the world," said Lana Migliore, President of Memory-Of.com.

This year alone, more than 26,000 families in America will experience the loss of a newborn and more than 40,000 women will die from breast cancer.

For each mother commemorated by a lit candle during the month of May, Memory-Of.com will donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care of all and energize science to find cures for breast cancer. And for each child commemorated during the month of May, Memory-Of.com will donate $1 to First Candle, a national health organization uniting parents, caregivers and researchers nationwide with government, business and community service groups to advance infant health and survival. Working to ensure that every baby is given the best possible chance to reach not only his or her first birthday, but many happy birthdays beyond, their mission is to promote safe pregnancies and the survival of all babies through the first years of life. With programs of research, education and advocacy, their goal is to continue to have a significant impact on infant mortality rates in the U.S. Learn more by visiting www.firstcandle.org.

"It was important for us to give hands and feet to our online tributes—in the sense that they serve to lift others up and stand for something worthwhile. We want make this Mother's Day mean more than just flowers, chocolates and gifts—we wanted this holiday to be about what matters most—moms," said Benjamin Gruber, Vice President of Memory-Of.com.

Once visitors light a candle, they will be able upload a photograph, submit tributes and condolences, and add video and audio files to their loved one's tribute. Visitors to A Mother's Day Month of Remembrance can access the tribute homepages at the following links.
