Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Drew Hayes and Terry Council officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Alan Tidwell, Kenny Crews, Joseph Pruett, Terry Council, Art Santellen, Jimmy Gatton and Steven Hryniewicz.
The family requests that memorials be made to Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church or Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for the feeding program.
He was born March 30, 1926, in Hornbeak, son of the late Eunice Myrtle (Jones) and Willie B. Tanner Sr. He married the former Jamie Oneida McCullough Sept. 19, 1947. She survives. He was owner of the former West Side Builders Supply in Union City for about 35 years and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European theater in the Fighting 69th Infantry Division and rising to the rank of sergeant. He was a member of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is also survived by two daughters and his son-in-law, Alice and Henry Griswold of Bryant, Ark., and Becky Pruett and Art Santellen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Diana Jo Tanner of Dyersburg; five grandchildren, Emily Helvering of Appleton, Wisc., Sarah Ching of Bessemer, Ala., Catherine Hryniewicz of Fayetteville, Ark., Joseph Pruett of Provo, Utah, and James Pruett of Colorado Springs; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Andrew Ching of Bessemer and Grant Michael Davis of Colorado Springs; and his sister, Maxine Myers of Union City.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers.
