Dorothy Southerland

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Shaffer Southerland, 72, of Tiptonville died Feb. 28, 2015, at her residence.
She was born in Tiptonville March 30, 1942, the daughter of the late Alco and Pearl (Fowler) Smith. Mrs. Southerland was a homemaker and a member of the Walnut Grave Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, William J. “Bill” Southerland of Tiptonville; four sons, Terry Shaffer, Michael Shaffer, Randy Shaffer and Bobby Shaffer, all of Tiptonville; three daughters, Martie Zeller of Kalamazoo, Mich., Brenda Spicer of Tiptonville and Felicia Morris of Ridgely; 23 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clint Shaffer; a son, Ronnie Shaffer; and two brothers, Bobby Joe Smith and Raymond Smith.
Friends may call at Calvary Independent Baptist Church today beginning at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Rev. Carl Southerland will officiate, with burial following in the Lake Memorial Gardens near Tiptonville.
Pallbearers will be John Lee Parson, Richard Canoy, Joseph Stringer, Caleb Scott, Jimmy Dean and Jeffrey Canoy.
Cryer Funeral Home in Obion is in charge of arrangements.
