Bill Morton

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Troy First Baptist Church, with Dr. Vann Kissell officiating, assisted by the Rev. Robert Davis. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery near Troy.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. today at the church. White & Mahon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Robert Osborne, Robin Osborne, Mike Davis, Charles Davis, Perry Barfield, Roger Norquist, Ben Peevyhouse, Donald Bennett and Charles Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be current and retired employees of Union City Electric System, employees of Troy First Baptist Church and his neighbors.
The family requests that memorials be made to Troy First Baptist Church building fund.
He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Mason Hall, son of the late William Arlington and Drucy (Warix) Morton. He married the former Anna Marie Bennett Dec. 17, 1950. She survives. He was a lineman for the Union City Electric System from 1953-1988 and was then employed at Troy First Baptist Church from 1993-2013. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had served as a tank driver in the 11th Armored Division. He was a member of Troy First Baptist Church for 56 years and had been a deacon. He enjoyed working in his shop and loved to garden and spend time outdoors, in addition to serving his church and doing for others.
He is also survived by two daughters and his son-in-law, Ava and Larry Storie of Jackson and Faye Morton of Newbern; his son and daughter-in-law, Bubba and Stephanie Morton of Newbern; four grandchildren and their spouses, Emily Morton and Ben and Terri Peevyhouse, all of Newbern, Jason and Lee Storie of Union City and Ryan and Ashley Storie of Olive Branch, Miss.; two great-grandchildren, Izzy Scout Storie of Union City and Stockton Peevyhouse of Newbern; his sister, Ava Lee Roberson of Troy; two half brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Betty Davis of Hornbeak and Roland and Carolyn Davis of Samburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his son, John Arlington Morton; and two sisters, Minnie Bell McCollum and Beauton Davis.
