Carter Hooks

A memorial service will be held at Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green,  where he was a member for a number of years. A final burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, with arrangements to be announced.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, to Wounded Warriors or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Bowling Green, son of the late Katherine and R.B. Hooks Sr.
He graduated with a master’s degree in education from Western Kentucky University and began his career in education in Glasgow, Ky., with a love of history and politics. He later left the classroom to serve Kentucky as an administrative assistant to Gov. Louie B. Nunn, followed by a position in economic development with Tennessee Gov. Winfield Dunn. Mr. Hooks worked in economic development in both Kentucky and Tennessee, including time devoted to that career in Union City, until he retired and moved home to Bowling Green.
He served in the military on active duty for 23 years, including service in the Korean War, and upon his return stateside, served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Later, he would serve in the Kentucky National Guard, ending his Army career as Major Carter K. Hooks.
Carter was loved and will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Sherry (Driver) Hooks; as well as a daughter and son-in-law, Dana Maxwell and Mark Jones of Georgetown, Ky.; and his son and daughter-in-law, Carter Robert and Allyn Blanton-Hooks of Roswell, Ga. He leaves three grandchildren, William Nicholas Maxwell and his wife, Nicole, and Christopher Alex Jones, all of Georgetown, and Addison Grace Hooks of Roswell; and two little great-granddaughters, Bailey Maxwell and Peyton Maxwell, both of Georgetown.
He is also survived by his brother, R.B. Hooks Jr. of Bowling Green; two sisters, Frances Catlett of Louisville, Ky., and Sarah Laws of Lexington, Ky.; several loving nieces and nephews; and a host of business and personal acquaintances and friends.
