SHOWING RESPECT

SHOWING RESPECT — Chandler Smith’s cross-country jersey was recently retired by Black Oak Elementary and presented to his parents, Timbo and Amanda Smith, and his brother, Justin, by head coach Brandy Lattus at the Black Oak Elementary athletic banquet in March. Chandler Smith was a member of the 2017-18 Black Oak cross country team, winning three individual medals. It was Black Oak’s second year to have a cross country team, and the team consisted of only four runners — Chandler Smith, Daniel Northern, Livee Seals and Paul Hayden Seals. Justin Smith wore this same jersey during the 2019-20 cross-country season. Chandler Smith was a sophomore at Obion County Central High School and a member of the OC Anglers. He passed away on Feb. 22. The frame contains the scripture Philippians 3:14, “So I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God’s call through Christ Jesus to the life above.” Ellen Bowden of Ya Ya’s Framing donated the frame.
